Warm-Up:
Fish Cheeks, by Amy Tan
Read and annotate the text for details about Amy’s identity and how it develops over the course of the memoir.

My Mother Tells the Story of Her Alabama Childhood, by Elisabeth Gorey
Read and annotate the text for details about Elisabeth’s mother’s identity and how it develops over the course of the poem.

How do characters in literature create/develop their identities?
