Week #10
Unit 2: Determining and Developing Central Ideas
Guiding Question: In a culture where we are bombarded with ideas and images of “what we should be”, how does one form an identity that remains true and authentic for her/himself?
Warm-Up:
Heartbeat
Read the text and annotate for clues as to how Heartbeat’s identity changes over the course of the text.
Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
Mini-Lesson:
Readers consider both explicit and implicit meaning to make sense of texts.
Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
